Playing for school (Northgate Grammar, Ipswich in mid 1960s)

PROUDEST MOMENT(S):

Representing IW in World Cup Veterans Tournament in London in 1986; Scoring the first of our two goals in the tournament against the Germans!!!!! (Mike Davis scored the other against Caracas, Venezuela) and (this is a good one) – once featured as Sports Personality of the Week in the now defunct IW Weekly Post (probably why it is now defunct!!!!)

WORST INJURY: 

Have been really lucky over the years (hamstring/calf strains/lower back muscular problems etc) – but sadly general ‘wear and tear’ now beginning to take its toll (could do with more than a few replacement parts!!!!)

Played Junior County tennis for Suffolk (1968); Late father was a goalkeeper with Ipswich Town in the mid-1930s; Represented primary school at Portman Road (home of ITFC) for the Queen’s official visit to Ipswich in July 1960 – I say this because it was the closest I ever got to performing on the hallowed turf!!

Seeing some of the colts I trained get into the 1st team and scoring a hat trick on my birthday about 5 years ago.

WORST INJURY

A broken foot from when I was deliberatly hit by a player from the opposition who took a baseball swing at me.

Also suffered a broken tooth which was accidental and the morphine I needed made me look like the Elephant Man!

WORST HOCKEY INJURY

Two fractured thumbs and also taking a ball in the mouth during a pre-match warm up and playing the game sucking on an ice cube to restrict the fow of blood in my mouth

HONOURS: Several league and promotion medals and i've been top scorer for my respective team seven times in last nine years. Also scored over half the 2nd XI's goals in 2006.

PROUDEST MOMENT(S):

Scoring four goals on my debut for the IOW, scoring a belter of a goal into the top corner from almost the by-line against Southampton, scoring the winning goal against Southampton Uni that secured the 2^nd XI promotion in 2008.

WORST HOCKEY INJURY:

Being cut and almost knocked out at Southampton Uni by a ball that hit me, missing my eye by less than half a centimetre and ending up spending several hours in A & E. I was told by the doctor had the ball been half a centimetre lower I could’ve lost my eye.

About aged 11 at middle school

I once served the Queen a gin and tonic when I worked at the Chelsea Flower Show. I also, when working for IW Radio, interviewed Trevor Brooking in 2001 and 'out-predicted' him by confidently predicting England would go behind against Germany but come back to win (the famous 5 - 1) Trevor said it would be a draw - what does he know.

EARLIEST MEMORY OF PLAYING HOCKEY:
When I started at the age of 14 at my Public School in Seaford in 2000

PROUDEST MOMENT (S):
Getting 5 goals in one match while playing for Newhaven against Chicester Centurions where we ended up winning 5-4, a real match winning performance.
Also scoring a wonder goal against fareham in the 08/09 season to equal the scores at 2-2, still not quite sure how I managed to find the top corner with a sweep shot.

WORST HOCKEY INJURY:
In 2006 I was playing at smallbrook when I was smash (literally) in the face (eye socket) with the ball, even though I was happy to continue I soon realised that my front was covered in blood and my eye lid had been split open! After a 5 Hour trip to A&E I then had to have regular check ups at the hospital over following 2 years while doctors checked my eyesight was ok, during this period I was also unable to play hockey.

WORST HOCKEY INJURY: Whilst making a save, was knocked out by a trailing foot. Suffered concussion, jard neck and bruised jaw

Playing against Esso and scoring an own goal from a penalty corner with my head, which curled around the keeper behind me, and then getting yellow carded for complaining
